Old License Plates are the greatest collectors items you'll find anywhere. The reasons for Collecting Old License Plates are practically endless. License plates can have a number of special meaning to the collector. For example, an old license plate that I've had for almost 20 years and still use, has my birth date numbers included in the license tag. This was not by choice, but sheer coincidence. The random combination of numbers and letters on old license plates could be meaningless for one collector, but like gold to another. Another great reason for collecting old license plates is for their historical value. The image and design of old license plates of states from particular years, hold a tremendous amount of nostalgic value, especially for those of us who were around driving the cars using those old license plates from the 1960s, 1950s, 1940s, 1930s, 1920s, or even earlier. Before Designer License Plates even became available, sometimes the random choice of letters or numbers spelled somebody's name or a place associated with that person. Or the year of the plate could be your birth year or age. The 1969 Colorado License plate above reminds me of my childhood. That's what my Dad had on his cars when I was 8 years old. Just looking at these old license plates from Colorado gives me the nostalgic memories of an 8 year old boy in the Rocky Mountains.
